For Windows based system (DM5)
- Open Desktop Manager and wait for it to initialize.
- Plug in your device. If you see an icon that says IP Modem, you are ready to go. All you have to do is click Configure under Connection Settings and select your carrier. You can then click Connect and you should be connected.
If you do not see the IP Modem icon. You will have to make a few changes to make it appear. To make it work, do the following:

- Follow steps above. After you plug in your device, if you do not see the IP Modem icon, unplug your device and close the Desktop Manager.
- Locate the file called ip_modem_configuration.xml on your computer.
In Windows 7 it will be in C:ProgramDataResearch In MotionBlackberry
In Windows XP it will be in C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataResearch In MotionBlackberry
However, for both cases you must have your computer set to show hidden files and show system files.
- Open the ip_modem_configuration.xml file with notepad and do a Search for your telco/device telco. When you find that you will see “enabled=false”, change false to true and right below that you will see “isp.****”. Change that to wap.****. Close the file and save it, then change the file properties to Read Only.
Note: **** -> refers to your telco/device telco.
- Open Desktop Manager again and re-connect your device. You should now see the IP Modem icon.
- Click the IP Modem icon and then click Configure.
- Click Add Custom Profile, name it whatever you want and save it.
- Under your new custom profile, put the following in the Additional Commands box:
AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”wap.****”whereby **** -> the telco
- Save the profile, click OK, and from now on, you should be able to just click Connect and tether.

Once the above is completed, you may need to perform the following steps:

- Open up your Windows Start menu, select “Connect To” and then click Show All Connections.

- In the Network Tasks box in the right-hand margin, click Create a New Connection to launch the New Connection Wizard.

- From there, click Next, choose the Connect to the Internet option and hit Next again.
- Pick Setup My Connection Manually and hit Next again.
- Select “Connect Using a Dialup Modem”, hit Next.
- Select the Standard Modem option on the Select a Device screen, hit Next again.
- Within the ISP Name box, type a name for your connection (Carrier name, for example) and once again click Next.
- In the Phone Number field type *99#, and then select whether the connection is for you alone or for others, as well.
- Attach your device to your computer via the USB cable and launch the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Open your Windows start menu, choose the “Connect To” option and click the name of your new Network Connection.
- Click Dial and enjoy

- Click Start, select “Connect To”.
- Click Set up a connection or network.
- Click Set up a dialup connection.
- Perform the appropriate step from the following list:
(OVERSEAS) If it is on CDMA EVDO network, type #777 in the Phone number field, and click Next.
Type *99# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
(OVERSEAS) If it is on UMTS network, type *98# in the Phone number field, and click Next.
- Type APN. APN’s can be obtained from: FAQ
- In the Connection Name field type BlackBerry.
- Click Dialing Rules.
- Make sure the profile created in Task 2 has been selected (if applicable), and then click OK.
- Select Connect to establish an Internet connection.

- Click Set up a dial-up connection.
